WHERE IN THE WORLD?

Concrete Giant

This engineering landmark sits atop a pastoral landscape in southeastern Alberta. More than a century ago, it was used to transport water to irrigate land for farming. Built by the Canadian Pacific Railway, it was once known as the largest concrete structure of its kind in the world at 20 m high and over 3.1 km in length. It also features more than a thousand columns. Decommissioned in the late 1970s, it was designated a National Historic Site in 1983. — Truc Nguyen
