When nine-year-old Payson found herself stranded on the side of the road after her friend’s parents’ car got a flat tire, AMA roadside assistance arrived quickly — even though Payson’s family wasn’t with her. That kind of peace of mind is exactly why Margaret Jubinville, an AMA member and Payson’s grandmother, added Payson to her Premier membership through AMA’s Kids Go Free service. Jubinville lives with both her daughter and granddaughter. As they’re part of the same household, this allows Jubinville to add her granddaughter to the membership — something she says has become essential for her family’s safety. AMA’s Kids Go Free service allows Plus and Premier members to add children to their membership for free, as long as they reside in the same household and are under the age of 16. Children often travel between homes with step-parents, grandparents, friends or babysitters. If a child is ever in a vehicle that breaks down, even if the AMA member isn’t present, AMA can send roadside assistance directly to the child — and of course, AMA will always contact the parent or caregiver first to let them know about the situation. Kids Go Free isn’t just helpful in emergencies; it offers support in all kinds of situations. Jubinville explains that the Kids Go Free service has come in handy for them two or three times now. One time it was for a flat tire, and another time it was a car that wouldn’t start. Whoever Payson was with just called AMA, and they got to them very quickly. “Payson knows she’s on our AMA coverage and knows to phone us if something happens. It’s nice that she can still get help even when she’s with other people,” says Jubinville
“No one should have to worry about whether help will arrive when their child is stranded. Kids Go Free extends our roadside protection to the youngest passengers, so parents and caregivers can trust their children are safe — no matter whose car they're in.”
“Kids Go Free is exactly the kind of protection families deserve,” says Jonas Haurdahl, AMA’s director of membership and member rewards. “No one should have to worry about whether help will arrive when their child is stranded. Kids Go Free extends our roadside protection to the youngest passengers, so parents and caregivers can trust their children are safe — no matter whose car they’re in.”
For parents and grandparents, knowing kids are safe on the road makes all the difference. AMA’s Kids Go Free ensures families can trust that help will arrive when it matters most. For Jubinville, seeing her granddaughter actually use the service a few times has only reinforced how valuable it is. “I certainly don’t have to worry when Payson is out and about with other people, especially in the wintertime,” she says. “If there’s ever a car breakdown, that service is available, and AMA gets there promptly when kids are involved. Knowing help will always show up quickly means everything.” AMA
