A LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT

A Century of Trust, A Future of Promise
AS I SIT DOWN TO WRITE this message to you, I find myself both reflective and excited. You see, in 2026, the Alberta Motor Association will celebrate its 100th year. One hundred years. When I reflect on that, I feel both inspired and deeply aware of the immense responsibility to care for and nurture this storied organization. For nearly a century, generations of Albertans have relied on AMA for peace of mind, for support and to help them protect the things that matter most. It’s a legacy that truly humbles me.
Our story began with a simple but powerful idea: a group of early motorists coming together to drive change by making roads safer for everyone. It was about working together, protecting one another and building stronger communities through unity and shared purpose. That spirit has been at the heart of who we have been since day one. And today, it lives on — as we continue to stand beside our members, providing confidence and support for the things that matter in their lives.
As we approach this centennial, we’ve been reflecting on our legacy. We’ve looked back at the countless journeys we’ve safeguarded, the emergencies we’ve responded to, the peace of mind we have helped to create, and the many ways we’ve adapted and grown to meet your evolving needs. But that reflection isn’t just about looking backward; it’s about drawing strength from our past to build a brighter future for Alberta’s young people.
I often hear stories from members about how their parents or grandparents purchased their first membership for them. Or how proud they were to have been part of our School Safety Patrol program. AMA has had the great privilege of being part of young people’s lives almost since our inception, and our upcoming centennial has only served to deepen our commitment to delivering programming designed to empower the next generation.
We’re building on our foundational commitment to road safety, evolving our programs to address the complexities of today’s mobility landscape. We’re helping to inspire young Albertans by providing elementary and middle school educators with the tools and materials they need to help teach children how to garden and grow their own food. And we’re bringing Driver Education back to the classroom, ensuring our young adults have ready access to the information they need to master the rules of the road. These programs don’t just build skills — they help build confidence and self-reliance for our young people.
Our centennial isn’t just a celebration of our past — it’s a renewal of our promise to you. It’s a commitment to help the next generation feel confident and prepared, supporting them on their journey wherever we can. At the end of the day, it’s about ensuring we are all ready for whatever lies ahead. AMA Michelle Chimko President and CEO Alberta Motor Association
